Boat rental in the Netherlands

Overijssel:

Overijssel is not just an untouched and intractable little part of the Netherlands, it is foremost a surprisingly versatile watery area. The north-western part of Overijssel is one of those idyllic places that are best explored by boat. The domain of purple herons, cormorants, and otters appears like it was almost created specifically for water sports enthusiasts.
With its length of 129 kilometres, the Overijssel route guarantees a week of fun sailing. Moreover, due to its central location in the Netherlands, the route links up perfectly with famous cruising grounds such as the Frisian Lakes, IJsselmeer, and the lakes between former coast and empoldered land.
Overijssel offers beautiful waterways through water-rich nature reserves, such as the Weerribben and naturally Giethoorn, the “Venice of the North”. Via Beulakerwijdemeer, you can set course for the old villages around the Zuiderzee, such as Blokzijl, Vollenhove, and Zwartsluis.
From here, you can visit also other old fishing villages such as Elburg via the lakes between former coast and empoldered land.

Turfroute: Friesland Drenthe Overijssel

The “Turfroute” (Peat Route) is a magnificent sailing route through Friesland, Drenthe, and Overijssel. In this region, you can enjoy beautiful and peaceful sailing routes that have a different character than those in the Frisian lakes region. The sailing route, with many bridges and locks, runs through a variegated natural environment with great hiking and bicycle trails. Quaint villages and their sights are located along and in the immediate vicinity of the sailing route.
The sailing route is accessible from three directions: The northwest (Oldeboorn), the southwest (Mildam), and the east (the Dam lock at Appelscha).
The Peat Route is open every year from 16 May through 15 September. During that period, the bridges and locks are operated from 9 AM until noon and from 1 PM to 5 PM. The bridges and locks are not operated on Sundays and legal holidays, with the exception of the months July and August.
For € 15, you can buy an admission ticket at the entrance of the Peat Route. This admission fee covers all bridge, lock, and harbour dues on this route (with the exception of self-operated bridges and the marina of Olderberkoop). Once you exit the Peat route, the admission ticket becomes invalid.
The following maximum dimensions are in effect on the Peat Route: A length of 28 metres, a width of 5 metres, and a draught of 1.10 metres. Maximum clearance is 3.70 metres. The railway bridge at Heerenveen has a maximum clearance of 3.25 metres. The route on the Tsjonger and/or Linde in the direction of Kuinre has a bridge with a maximum clearance of 2.60 metres. The maximum speed is 6 kilometres per hour.
Extensive information about the Peat Route can be found on the site.

Groningen:

Groningen is trying hard to become the water sports province of the Netherlands. At least that is what the people there are hoping.
It is indeed a province that has a great deal to offer water sports enthusiasts. Numerous lakes such as the Schildmeer, Zuidlaardermeer, Lauwersmeer provide a wide range of water sports opportunities. However, the province of Groningen also has numerous other waterways with ever-improving links to the main waterways.
You can reach the province of Groningen via a range of canals. If you wish to sail with upright mast, you have to approach Groningen via Leeuwarden and Lauwersmeer lake.

Region of Lauwersmeer: (Groningen)

The Lauwersmeer National Park is located in the northern Netherlands at the border of Groningen and Friesland. In the past, the sea had free reign of the lake and there was an open connection to the Wadden Sea.
A dam was built in 1969 out of fear for flooding. This was a shock for many nature lovers! Fortunately, it became soon clear that a magnificent new landscape was coming into existence. The nature in the region of Lauwersmeer is so special that it has been declared a National Park. There is much to discover in the peace and space of the vast landscape. Extraordinary flowers, vast numbers of birds, and fantastic vistas.
You can explore the Lauwersmeer National Park on foot, bicycle, and by boat. There are numerous attractive lodging opportunities throughout the region.
