The Frisian language and special activities
Friesland is unique with its own flag, anthem, and language, namely Frisian (Frysk). Many inhabitants of the Friesland province can speak, understand, read, and/or write this language. New Frisian books, songs, or poems are still being published every year.
The seven red water lily leaves adorning the Frisian flag are called “pompeblêden”. You can still encounter many of these “pompeblêden” in the nature reserves of Earnewâld or the Weerribben.
A multitude of sports activities, such as Fierljeppen (long pole vaulting), keatsen (Frisian handball), “Skûtsjesilen” (19th century freighter sailing competitions), the Eleven Cities Tour on skates, bicycle, and boat, have made the province of Friesland famous.
During the season, Friesland offers all kinds of activities for young and old. For instance: The Sneek Week, the Kameleon village in Terherne, the old-fashioned peasant wedding and the balloon festival in Joure, etc.

De Marrekrite
Mooring for free in the middle of nature is possible in Friesland thanks to the Marrekrite. The Marrekrite is a concept, domestically as well as abroad.
Through the use of the Marrekrite (a joint venture between the province and 21 municipalities that establishes and maintains free moorings in rural areas along the Frisian lakes and waterways), provincial and municipal authorities in Friesland want to enable you, as a water sports enthusiast/tourist, to sojourn in our beautiful nature.
Since 1957, more than 250 landing facilities have been erected in the Frisian lakes region, with a total capacity for approximately 5000 boats. Garbage containers have been stationed at various locations to keep the terrains and areas clean.
Marrekrite moorages are unique and very much in demand. In order to provide as many interested parties as possible with the opportunity to use the Marrekrite moorages, a maximum of three mooring days has been imposed.
As a yacht rental agency, we also support the Marrekrite. This is why you will see a small flag of the Marrekrite on the masts of our ships.
